Irish/Bilingual Wedding Invites

We are gaeilgeoirs and we were hoping to include Irish in our invites. They'll be sent to people that don't have a word of Irish too and so we'd need to incorporate both english & irish. We'll probably be making our own invites so is it best to print separate 'all irish' ones or is there a way of having a kind of bilingual invite???
Any experience of/suggestions for the best way to do this?

I think the best way to do this is to print the english version on one side and the Irish version on the other side. I don't think you would have enough room for both versions on the one side (I'm presuming your paper is A5 size).

It will take a bit more time to print them all out correctly but it's a really nice and unique idea I think. Good luck with it!

TIP: To print left and right of the inside of the invitation, use two columns and make sure the spacing between them is double the side margin. This will ensure both sides are printed centre of their spaces.

For example, in Word 2007, select the Page Layout tab.
Click 'Orientation', set it to 'Landscape'.
Click 'Margins', select 'Custom Margins..' and make sure the left and right margins are set to the same size, e.g. 2 cm.
Click 'Columns', select 'More Columns...', click on 'Two' and in the 'Spacing' box, put in 4 cm.

Hope that helps too! Think the idea above is a great one, maybe also use different versions of the same font, using the Italic for the Irish? by forbetterforworse 2 years 1 months ago

my friends got married and hubbie is spanish so they did bilinguial invites and did them in a card so the outside had a pic or whatever and inside one side was english and one was spanish. also had readings, prayers and a spanish speaking preist who was able to go between the 2 and i did first reading in english and 2nd was in spanish it was really a lovely ceremony. It is a bit of extra work for ye but its a lovely thing to do. Good luck

If you want a Bilingual Wedding and wish to save yourselves the trouble of hiring a live interpreter, it's a lot easier to print the basic materials for your wedding in both languages. And all you'd need to compose your booklet for a Bilingual Wedding ceremony (Catholic) is online at http://www.together.ie/Bilingual_Wed.html -- that website provides the full wedding texts in English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese, Polish and of course Latin.
