Invitation timeline

Hey All,

Just wondering if any of you can help. Myself & my fiance are getting married on the Sat of the Oct long weekend next year. Now my fiance is getting a lil worried re people not being able to go as they've planned weekends away etc. So he wants to send out 'Save the Date' cards early enough next year. How many months before a wedding do you send out the 'save the dates' and the actual invitations?

Thanks a mill :-)

Didn't do these ourselves but had a frriend who got married abroadd and they sent them out about 7 months before actual wedding. I think anything up to a year before is considered acceptable so you'd be in plenty of time doing i in jan for octoer, or maybe you could save yourself some money and put a note in with your christmas cards or something. generally your close friends and family are going to keep the date in mind when booking things but no harm to remind them. Invites go out about 5-6 weeks before wedding but we got married in August so I think sent ours a good bitt before that as holiday season etc. No real rules I guess, do what feels right for you guys

my friend is getting married next august and we just got their save the date card. I'd do it 12 months- no harm in having them out early- gives everyone a chance to plan/save around it!

I think once you have the date and the venue, send out the cards a year early gives people plenty of chances to plan around it

I think the thing with STDs (what an unfortunate abbreviation) is you send them out as early as possible. Many people send out invites ~3 months in advance; we're going to do ours ~5 months in advance with 6 weeks or so to RSVP for relatives, and then send friend ones out as and when from then onwards (so if we have a B list we can make decisions, though I think we are actually going to come in under our max # guests! Yay!).
